374 : from: Iowa

Jean drew this map on the envelope that delivered it, tracing the route she imagined it was about to travel. Interstate 80 runs the full width of the paper, picking up labels for states along the way, with a small skyline and a few lake ripples standing in for Chicago. At the eastern end, the route drops onto 76, then 283, then 30, and finishes at a single house off James Street where the association’s mail arrived. A note in the left margin offers an alternative use for the same highway: “three days to Lake Tahoe, just stay on 80.” Please note this has not been our mailing address for many, many years.
