Police Chase

This map traces a police chase that grabbed the attention of people living in the Tree Streets neighborhood of Waynesboro, Virginia. One of Tony’s coworkers witnessed part of the chase, and drew this map to show where he was standing when the cars came around a corner.

Is that near Hawaii

Tony drew this map for his three-year-old daughter when she inquired about their upcoming trip to a North Carolina island. She asked, “Is that near Hawaii?” In response, he provided an impromptu geography lesson with this accurate memory map of the continents. The pink highlighter shows where she has traveled and the pink dots indicate […]

House of the Future

This simple map from Tony has quickly become one of our favorites. Perhaps it’s the name Tony gave the map, “House of the Future,” or the strange juxtaposition of the words “Cuba” and “Walmart.” At any rate, we love it. Tony let us know this map shows the location of a house he moved into […]

Mom’s Map

In August 2008, Tony found the HDMA online and decided to write an article for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune where he was a summer intern. During our interview, Tony mentioned that his mother was always drawing maps for him as he was starting out on his own in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Eventually he emailed […]

Crash

Tony sent us a set of three maps recently. I could ask him for more information, but I’ve decided to embrace the simplicity of his explanations included on a post-it note. Look for the other two maps later this week. “Directions to the scene of a crash: trolley vs. pedestrian.”

Med Center Honeymoon

Here’s where my decision to stick to the ambiguous post-it note description adds some mystery to the map. “Map to medical center in Portland, Oregon during honeymoon.”

Optometry Appointment

Tony writes, “I had to GoogleMap search this one to figure it out. It appears to be directions to the eye doctor that my younger brother visited in his youth. Apparently there were two decent ways to get there, hence the circuit, and I’m a big fan of the landmarks. Note the dots representing stoplights.”
